Born in Minnesota, Laurie Reid received a B.A. from Reid College in Portland, Oregon, and a degree in French Literature, with honors, Université de Strasbourg, France, Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures. She received a Cadogan Fellowship from the San Francisco Foundation and a SECA award, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Still a young artist, Laurie Reid's work was included in the Whitney Museum's 2000 Biennial. In her large- scale watercolors, she capitalizes on the water's natural buckling of the paper to create imposing yet subtle compositions. In her prints she creates the same effect by drawing with acid directly on a copper plate.
