Anton Refregier

Russian/American , 1905 - 1979

Born in 1905 in Moscow, Russia, Anton Refregier emigrated to the United States in 1920. His most famous work is arguably the Work’s Progress Administration mural project at San Francisco’s Rincon Center. The mural is the costliest and one of the most controversial of all the WPA commissions. Refregier brought images of labor strife to the public through his murals and screenprints.
