Almudena Lobera has been devoted in recent years to showing alternative models for the configuration of the visible, delving deeply into the notion that the image is not always visible or accessible in nature. She explores the nature of the image, its varying layers, the perception of the (un)represented, the questioning of the ‘work of art’ as device and the relationship of the work with the space and with the beholder. Her work aims to connect the legacy of the past and the influence of Classical and Renaissance authors with the indication of what is to come from an instantaneous continuous present that explores the ephemeral and virtual image qualities in our era.
Her work has been exhibited at the CCI Fabrika, Moscow; Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York; Fabra i Coats, Barcelona; Pivô, São Paulo; Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona, Italy; Tabacalera, Madrid, Galería Vermelho, São Paulo; UdK Berlin, among other spaces. Solo exhibitions include ‘Visionary Instruments’ ECCO Cádiz; ‘A Particular Claim to Truth’, Mexico; ‘Superficial Reading’, Museo ABC – ARCO Madrid; ‘Portadores’, Panamá; ‘Somewhere between’, Madrid; ‘Manual of the mental image’; ‘Reflection-Reflexion’, UCL Slade, London, among others.
She has received several awards such as: Generation 2012 Award from Caja Madrid; Circuits 2011, Madrid; the INJUVE Projects Award 2011, the FIBArt 2011 grant, the Del Plano al Cubo Award CCE_México, the Aid for Production in Visual Arts 2012 Com. Madrid and the ABC Award 2013.
