Jutta Koether was born in Cologne in 1958. She lives and works between New York and Berlin.
Koether's paintings are exercises in color, line, form and pattern and often feature text. Her style has precedent in the works of Sigmar Polke and Kenny Scharf. She mixes graffiti-inspired brushwork, fluorescent colors, fragmented images and assorted quotations on surfaces that have a vibrant, all-over undergrowth.
Her work sees painting as multipurpose. Jutta Koether has also worked as a reviewer and editor for many magazines and journals such as Texte our Kunst and Flashart. At last, she has elaborated many artist books.
