Yoshitoshi Mori was born in Tokyo in 1896. He attended the Kawabata School of Fine Art and after graduation, he became a textile designer and a dyer of kimono fabrics. Mori was nearly sixty years old when he made his first print. His style is known as “sosaku hanga”.
Mori had incredible energy during his later years and from the late 1950s, he exhibited regularly in Japan and abroad in numerous art shows. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Maryland University in 1984. In recent years, prints by Mori have become rather rare and expensive.
