Nate Cassie

American , 1970 -

Cassie obtained a BA in Studio Art from Hope College in Holland, MI (1992), and his MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio (1995).

Cassie's work includes drawing, painting, sculpture, video and digital media. The medium or material used for each specific project or series is carefully chosen for its abilitiy to best express the concept that drives the work. One recurrent aspect, both formally and conceptually, is the revolution of elements around a gravitational center. This rotation could include a physical rotation in the process of making, the inclusion of or focus on a vortex-like object or image, or finally the artist as a vector center of activity or community.

Cassie's work has been exhibited in the U.S. and abroad, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the City Museum in Queretaro, Mexico, and the McNay Art Museum San Antonio, Texas. He is a past fellow in the Artpace International Artist-in-Residence Program and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts' FIVA Residency Program in Miami, Fl.
