Arntz, a printmaker, was born in Remscheid, Germany in 1900. He joined the army at the age of eighteen and one year later, began studies at the L Kunowski Art School in Dusseldorf. In 1936, Arntz held works in the exhibition "De Olympiade Onder Dictaturer" in Amsterdam. He was conscripted into the German army in 1943 and was taken as a prisoner of war in France in 1944. From 1951-1962, he worked for UNESCO, providing pictorial statistics.
