Jacques Hnizdovsky was born in the Ukraine in 1915. After studying oil painting in Warsaw and Zagreb, Hnizdovsky changed his focus to woodcuts after moving to the United States in 1949.
During his career, he produced several hundred beautiful and intricate woodcuts during his career. He was greatly influenced by the detail and color of Japanese woodcuts. During the 1970s, Hnizdovsky was represented in New Orleans and his work has been exhibited in Japan, Russia, Italy and New York. Jacques Hnizdovsky became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1954.
